What Is an MSK Physiotherapist – and When Should You See One?
If you have ever Googled "why does my back hurt" or "should I see a physio", this one is for you.
MSK stands for musculoskeletal. That covers everything that keeps you moving: muscles, joints, bones, ligaments and tendons. If something hurts, feels stiff, or keeps stopping you doing what you want to do, an MSK physio is the person to see.
What do we actually do?
At Peak Performance we do not just treat the symptom in front of us. We assess, diagnose, and get to the bottom of what is actually going on. That means hands on treatment where it helps, but also a proper rehab plan so you are not back to square one six months later.
In a typical appointment you can expect:
A thorough assessment to understand what is causing your pain, not just where it hurts. Hands on treatment including joint mobilisation and soft tissue work. A tailored exercise programme to rebuild strength and function. Honest, plain English advice about what is going on and what to do about it.
What conditions do we treat?
Back and neck pain, sports injuries, knee and shoulder problems, post surgical rehab, work related aches, chronic conditions like osteoarthritis. Whether it came on suddenly or has been building for years, we can help.
When should you come and see us?
You do not need to wait until things get really bad. In fact the sooner you get it seen, the faster the recovery tends to be.
Come and see us if your pain has lasted more than a couple of weeks, it is affecting your sleep, work or daily life, you have had a recent injury, or the same problem keeps coming back despite rest.
Do you need a referral?
No. You can book directly with us, no GP referral needed. We have availability at Heart of the Shires in Northamptonshire and at Hybrid Fit Gym in Lutterworth.
What happens at your first appointment?
We start by getting to know you properly. Your symptoms, your lifestyle, your goals. Then a physical assessment covering movement, strength and flexibility. By the end you will have a clear explanation of what is going on and a plan to fix it. Most people leave with exercises to start straight away because recovery is always a team effort.
MSK physiotherapy is not just for athletes or serious injuries. It is for anyone who wants to move well, feel better, and stay active.
